NESHIMA est le premier album solo pour luth et théorbe d'Orí Harmelin. Grâce au langage musical de la fin du XVIe et du début du XVIIe siècle, Orí explore un nouveau domaine de possibilités pour la création personnelle. L’album comporte des arrangements originaux de madrigaux, de motets et de chansons de Cipriano de Rore, Josquin des Prez et Thomas Tallis, ainsi que des compositions de la plume d’Orí de pièces à variations telles que La Monica, la passacaille et le Ballo del Granduca, ainsi que des compositions originales se servant des éléments de ce langage musical. De plus, cet album contient une pièce pour théorbe écrite pour Orí par le compositeur Simon MacHale.
NESHIMA signifie respiration en hébreu. Selon Orí, « notre souffle est notre fidèle ami. Si la respiration est universelle car elle nous relie à la vie, elle est aussi extrêmement personnelle, ma respiration est ma vie ». Entre la création de cet album par Orí, son titre et l'interprétation d'Orí, nous expérimentons une rencontre extrêmement intime qui nous connecte au monde des instruments historiques à cordes pincées d’une façon complètement nouvelle.
